This Masjid was built by Aurangzeb. He had the design built in 1671 and it was completed in 1673. The reason why this project took so much time was the fact that everything was new and the exterior was decorated with carved red sand stones. The moment you step inside the mosque you'll be greeted by two story building. Thus building has embraced certain features from the Middle East and consist of a Muqarna.
It was the largest imperial mosque built at that time. It not only has Islamic significance but it was also used as a Garrison during Sikh and British era.
